Research on Hypnosis for Stress and Anxiety Relief

Hypnosis has been approved by the American Medical Association since 1958 and stands upon mountains of scientific research. There are over 12,000 peer-reviewed scholarly journals and articles substantiating the efficacy and efficiency of hypnosis.

The tremendous volume of research provides compelling evidence that hypnosis is an efficacious treatment for state anxiety (e.g., prior to tests, surgery and medical procedures) and anxiety-related disorders, such as headaches and irritable bowel syndrome.

Clinical reports and observations going back almost two centuries consistently indicate that hypnotherapy is an effective modality for the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The participants were 20 adults who sought hypnotherapy for such problems as stress, anxiety, and depression. There were two pretreatment measurements and one posttreatment measurement. Statistical analyses revealed significantly less symptomatology post treatment in all measured dimensions.

The study included 193 patients at the age from 18 to 40 years. They were offered the following methods of non-medical therapy: psychotherapy, phytotherapy, and acupuncture.  The best results were obtained by combined treatment based on cognitive and behavioral psychotherapy, hypnosis, and autogenic training as its major components.
